the Eye is not a camera

01sept2008
(photo: polarcollision)

So what is it about this day that I can't let go of? Maybe it's the emerald flare of a fresh forest, the promise of summer sun, the love of a constant companion, or the unexpected enjoyment of something previously dismissed.

It's the blur of memory. And so much more.

This particular photograph was taken at the corner of Round Top and Forest Ridge where the trees seem to think is Fall all year long.

Rays

Rays, originally uploaded by A Skin For Tomorrow.

That is a view of the urban forest on Mount Tabor in Portland Oregon. Mount Tabor is a dormant volcano within the city's perimeter. An old growth forest makes up the park on the mountain which offers expansive views of the downtown Portland skyline to the west and the breathtaking Mount Hood--still shrouded in snow--to the east.

new forest walk

new forest walk, originally uploaded by chrispins - away.

The New Forest was founded by William the Conqueror in 1079 - it was a Royal Hunting Forest, mainly for deer.
Through history it has been conceded by the Crown to local people, called commoners, including the pasturing of donkeys, horses pigs and cattle. It also has provided timber to the Crown.
It is a great place for walking and riding, and has recently been designated a National Park.
It is situated in the south of England near Southampton.

River Running Through Joyce Kilmer Forest

This image is of the river that passes under the main entrance bridge into Joyce Kilmer national forest. Its hard to capture the beauty of scenes like this without using multiple exposures blended into an HDR image. I think this shot accurately captures how I saw the scene, even though the colors might look a little more vibrant than real life. The image in my mind really was so vivid. With the light shining through the tree line, cascading among the leaves, the scene was truly complex and beautiful.

Mushroom

Mushroom, originally uploaded by Kathy@dornickdesigns.

The thing I love most about the forest {where I live} are all of the wonderful little mushrooms that pop up all over the place after a good rain. These little fellows are tiny, but they look so strong standing tall and sheltered by some parsley & chamomile growing in my herb garden. :) (Kathy)

i see a salty message written in the eaves

Mossy Trees

Mossy Trees, originally uploaded by Papa Mikey.

Some tall trees along the Foresthill Road with lots of moss and lichen.

This photo was taken up on the Foresthill Road, south/southeast of Auburn,
California
. We had been driving for quite awhile on this rode and passed by
some forests that had recently burned during one of our many California
forest fires
. This photo was taken in a grove of untouched timber. I had
always heard that moss and lichen only grow on the north face of trees, but
I guess that is not totally true, since this picture was taken of the south
side of the trees looking north. I believe these are Douglas Firs but I may
be wrong. You might know better than I.
